Religious Education Congress, Anaheim, CA; February 29 - March 2

- we received a financial contribution from a very generous donor, to allow both of us to participate in this glorious event.

Concentrated efforts to introduce the CATHOLICS RETURNING HOME program to priests and assist with the formation of their parish teams.

2006 Past Activities 2006

  • Ministry with Families 101 MENTORING - November 14-15, 2006.  Steve has been invited by the National Association of Family Life Ministers to learn more about presenting Ministry with Families 101, by participating in the event at St. Bede the Venerable Catholic Church, La Canada, CA.
  • "Project Connection" (a Catholic revival) - begun by two young women to build the Kingdom of God within our universal Church
  • "Mission Impossible" - a parish project
  • Parish Social Ministry at two Honolulu Parishes
  • Collaboration Committee, part of the Office for the Welcoming Parish, Diocese of Honolulu
  • Participation in the Compassion Capital - Fellows Program 2006, for the Office for Social Ministry, Diocese of Honolulu

 

2006 Past Activities 2006

October 12; Facilitated Project Connection,as they assembled a group of interested associations to tour `Olelo Public Assess TV and learn directly from Mr. Gerry Silva, CFO, how to begin exploring the possiblities of partnering to build God's Kingdom, via television media.

September 29; Office for Social Ministry received approval for funds from the Compassion Capital - Hawai`i Moving Forward, Fellows Program 2006; to receive technical assistance from Where Talk Works, The Catalyst Group and Volunteer Resource Center of Hawaii; to begin strategizing the formation of Parish Social Ministry in all parishes of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Honolulu.

September 28; Aassisted two young ladies with their presentation of their "Project Connection" to the Vicar General of the Diocese of Honolulu, the Very Reverend Marc Alexander. Their presentation focused on who they are as Christians, filled with the Holy Spirit and where God is leading them.

September 10; Deacon Formation Training: Presenting "Evangelization"

August 25; "Catholic Revival" - possible beginnings

August 17; "Home Hospice" formation

August 15; Strategic Planning (Organizational Strategies or Strategic Strengthening) Workshop by Geri Marullo, Counsuelo Foundation

August 15; "Welcoming Returning Catholics Home" toured a women prisoner re-entry facility - an "Eye Opening Experience" for our ministry and the women prisoners.  For more information, contact Steve.

August 11 - 12; Hawaii Catholic Charismatic Service, Annual Conference: "Fill My Cup, JESUS Is All I Need" at St Philomena Parish.

August 9 and 25; Volunteer Management Training

August 6; Molokai Catholic Community's Gala Dinner "A Lei of Aloha for Father Damien;" at the Oceanside Retreat Center (former Pau Hana Inn).  Casey Groves performed "Damien" (One Man Act) - his first out door performance; and the weather and ocean cooperated.

July 29; "Ministry with Families 101" at St. Joseph Parish, Waipahu, Oahu.  Caroline was a first-time participant.  Steve received training to facilitate this workshop.

July 18 - 25; Vacationed on Maui with family.

June 27 - 28; Molokai Catholic Community: Initial preparations for Pilgrimages to Molokai "Topside" to honor Blessed Damien deVeuster and Blessed Marianne Cope.

June 24; Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, Wahiawa, Oahu; Parish Pastoral Council: "Pastoral Leadership."  Facilitated a mini-retreat/workshop to help the members of the Parish Pastoral Council toward Pastoral Leadership.

June 17; Catechetical Conference 2006; Presented "Ministires with Families"

June 10; St. Joseph Parish, Waipahu, Oahu; Parish Pastoral Council and Ministry Leaders.  Facilitated a mini-retreat/workshop to help ministries grow.  Workshop was co-facilitated by Sr. Sara Sanders, CSJ; presenting "Everyday Creativity."

May 20; Steve viewed the "Da Vinci Code."  Patrick Downes, editor of The Hawaii Catholic Herald, invited several people (ages ranged from 20 to 60) to view this movie and to discuss it, for an article for The Hawaii Catholic Herald.

April 29 - 30; "Living in Love" (based on Pope John Paul II, Theology of the Body) - taught by Ed and Betty Coda

April 8; our Welcoming Returning Catholics Home diocesan ministry was treated to th Perry and Price KSSK Breakfast Show at John Dominis Restaurant...and our special guest was our own Bishop Clarence (Larry) Silva.
